The Misfit looks around and he is stuck in a dark, cold cement room. He doesn’t remember how he got there. He’s so confused and his head is killing him, he reaches up to touch his forehead and sees dried blood all over his hands. That's when he noticed that he is covered in blood, it’s all over his clothes. The Misfit is unsure who the blood it is and why it is all over him. He sits there trying to solve this mystery but he still have no idea. He is trying to remember what happen tonight but he doesn’t remember anything that happened. After what seemed like hours of being overwhelmed by his thoughts, they finally give him a clean bright orange jumpsuit and The Misfit is called to meet with a doctor.
Could he have actually of done what they are saying?
The doctor begins by asking the Misfit question, to determine what kind of person he is. He starts with question about his childhood.
As a child, he really stood out compared to other kids his age. He constantly was asking questions that no other kid was even thinking about. This is where his nickname “The Misfit” comes from. He thinks it really fits him because well he never really fit in. His dad always told him how he was so different than his siblings. They were smart and successful, they worked hard for what they wanted and they got it. It was different for him though, He struggled in school and honestly had no interest of even being there. The Misfit always skipped class and decided to drop out of high school his sophomore year. His parents never supported his decision and that was that start of years of arguing with them. They compared him to his siblings and talked about how he should be more like them and that only made him more angry than he already was.
The Misfit’s parent always said they don’t have a favorite child but he knew that it was his brother. His brother always got what he wanted and there was no questions asked. It frustrated The Misfit because he never understood why. His brother was the best baseball player in the neighborhood, he always hit a homerun every game we played. Even the kids in my neighborhood were annoyed by him because he would hit the ball over the fence every time and that meant the game was over. Their dad took the brother to every home baseball game there was every season, but The Misfit was never invited. One day their father came home from work with a signed baseball and gave it to the brother. Their father said he spent every penny he had on the baseball just for the brother. The Misfit always wished he had the relationship with their father that his brother had. He never really understood why he was treated so differently.
Their father expected a lot from The MIsfit but he couldn’t live up to the father’s expectations. He wanted him to get the best grades just like my sister and he wished I could play baseball as well as his brother. It made him feel bad about himself because it was like he wasn’t good enough. The more his father treated him like this the more he felt like the name “The Misfit” was right for him. The Misfit began to isolate himself from the people in his family and began hanging out with people who were making bad decisions which lead to him making the same bad decisions.
The Misfit hasn’t spoke to anyone in his family in along time and had no intention of doing so until one night he ended up in jail. His friend, well someone that he thought was his friend, and himself ended up outside of the local corner store. He knew it was a bad idea to hang out with him but he did it anyway. The friend handed The MIsfit a small bag of drugs and told him to hold on to it for him. The Misfit knew it was a bad idea but if he went against what the friend said the results could be really bad. After only a few minute red flashing lights came around the corner, The Misfit didn’t know what to do so he looked over at his friend but he was gone. He started running as soon as he heard the sirens but it was too late for The Misfit. He got tackled to the ground and put in handcuffs within seconds.
The Misfit sat in the jail cell for a few hours and they told him that he could call someone to come and bail him out. He didn’t have anyone though, none of his friends had enough money and he didn’t think anyone in his family would even answer the phone. He decided to give his dad a call because he was his only chance of getting out of this cell. He answered on the first ring and said he would be there in a few minutes. The Misfit couldn’t believe it, he thought his dad hated him but now he is coming to bail him out of jail.
The car ride home was silent and when they pulled into the driveway The Misfit’s mother was sitting on the front porch waiting for him. He gave her a huge hug and she said “You’re just in time for dinner.” This was the first time in a long time that he was sitting around the dinner table with his family. His mother made an amazing steak and her creamy mash potatoes. He actually felt happy to be home except for the silence that surrounded the table.
The only noise you could hear were the knives and forks hitting the plates.
After a few minutes his dad slammed his fist on the table and said “Alright! I can’t do this anymore, I’m not just going to pretend like everything's okay!” His mother tried to calm him down but nothing was working. “No!” he screamed “He has been gone for week and gets arrested and we are just going to welcome him back into the house with a hug?” He finally sat back down in his chair, “I just don’t get it your siblings were never like this. Why do you have to make everything so difficult?” Here we go again, his father is comparing him to his siblings again. The Misfit can feel the heat rising to his face. “Your sister is going to school to become a doctor and your brother is going to become a professional baseball player and what are you doing? Oh well you’re just out getting arrested!” He clenched his fists so hard his fingernails were digging into his palms. “I swear you have been disappointing me since you were born!” The Misfit couldn’t take it anymore, he jumped up and without even thinking he pushed the steak knife that he was holding into his father’s chest. HIs vision went blurry and he could only hear muffled screams coming from his mother and siblings. He dropped the knife and began running out the door, he ran for as long as he could. He got to a huge hill and because of his speed he ended up flipping down it. He landed at the bottom onto a huge rock cutting his head.
His eyes slowly flutter open and he is back in the cement jail cell. There is a pounding in his head and he can’t get it to stop. His whole body is shaking and his legs are sore. He doesn’t know why he is here and he doesn’t think he wants to know why. One of the officers comes in and tells him that he is going to escort him to see a doctor. The MIsfit thinks about asking him why he is here but decides not to.
The doctor starts by looking him over and he says “You hit your head pretty bad and I believe you have a concussion.” He sits there in silent while he continues to observe him. The doctor begins to ask him questions but he don’t answer any of them. Then finally he asks “Do you know why you’re here?” The question he has been trying to solve for a while now. “No!” The MIsfit exclaimed giving the doctor a fright because this is the first time he said anything since he entered his office. “Well” he said with hesisatation. The anticipation was killing him, he really want to know what happened but also wasn’t sure if he wanted to know the truth. He finally comes out and says it “You, uh, you killed your father tonight.” The room is spinning and The MIsfit can’t even get any words out. It doesn’t feel real to him, he just don’t understand why he would do something like that. He knows his father and him have never had a great relationship but he never would have thought that he would kill him! His mind is racing and he can’t imagine how his mother is feeling. He begins to feel sick, the room goes black and he lands on the floor.
